The Street Artist's Hands

This photograph I took a couple of years ago at the San Rafael Italian Street Painting Fair. This art fair occurs in the summer and and for one weekend the streets are prepared on a Thursday and the artist begin to paint the streets from Friday through the weekend. This artist’s hands were massive and the chalk had really colored his hands. I just asked him to put a bunch of chalk in his hands and put them in front of me. This picture has been selling very successfuly. In trying to analyze why, I think, because the man’s hands, the colorfull chalk with the dark background make for a dramatic contrast.
