BIOGRAPHY - Continued

Up to three years ago, I used film and converted my slides into prints with slide scanner. While in Vietnam on a photographic vacation, I was shooting the sunrise from the balcony of my hotel in Bak La, when a Canadian photographer joined me using his digital camera. I was enthralled at the images he had and the results that were instantly available. After returning from the trip, I purchased my first digital camera a Canon 1 D. Recently, I upgraded to the Canon 1DS and I have sold all my film cameras.

With my semiretirement, I’ve the opportunity to travel quite a bit more. My travels always involve photography and I carry most of my equipment in my camera bag. The tripod became part of my anatomy. I have been to many countries and most recently, to Japan and China. Both trips were visually exciting and physically grueling especially the one to China. My regret about China is that the cities are very polluted, ruins the light, and the sunrise and sunsets become very muted through the smog. But, on occasional clear days the light is fantastic.

My areas of interest are those of people, events, landscapes and nature. People pictures are usually candid and I try to capture the moment on my images. I love sports especially tennis where I can use my camera to capture the action. Landscapes are always a pleasure to shoot especially in the very early morning and evening. The colors at the beginning and end of the day at times worth an applause and an”Oh my!!” from me. My nature images are a study in the behavior of animals and birds. One of the best places I’ve had the pleasure to visit is the Bosque Del Apache in New Mexico. During the migration of the birds this area is just awesome. Thousands of snow geese and sandhill cranes congregate here and it is extraordinary to watch how these birds start and finish their days.

The purpose of developing this web site is to display the photos I have taken over the years, and to share them with my friends and family.
