BASS Weekend
for groups
of 5 or more
This course is scheduled at a local facility on the weekend to accommodate the schedules of food service employees who are unable to enroll in and attend a regular week day Bay Area ServSafe course. Courses are scheduled when a minimum of ten people have requested the class.

SMART ServSafe® Course

This course teaches food safety and sanitation principles to workers who need to know techniques necessary to reduce the risk of food borne illnesses. In California, Assembly Bill 1978 requires that all food service establishments must have at least one person who has passed a food safety certification exam,

such as ServSafe®. Each food service establishment location must have its own certified ServSafe® food handler who can serve as the certified person.

The San Mateo Adult School is offering this course to prepare participants for the ServSafe® certification exam. The San Mateo Adult School ServSafe® course and examination is given by a National Restaurant Association approved instructor. The ServSafe® course is taught with a practical approach to food safety that includes practical examples and demonstrations. Participants passing the ServSafe® exam will receive a certificate that is valid for three years. The certificate in the form of a card shows certification of competence in Food Safety and Sanitation.

Course Description
Our courses are fifteen hours long. The fifteen hours consists of seven hours of self/home study that are to be completed before attending class and eight hours of classroom instruction, quizzes and the certification exam during the class.

After completing the classroom portion of the course, the student should be able to successfully pass the approved and accredited food safety examination.

The course material is mailed to the student after registration and payment are received.
