We have been in the commercial food service business for fifteen years, first in Utah, then in California where we have operated a commercial food business since 1991. We supply bakery goods and other food items to businesses, and we also operate mobile catering vehicles, lunch counters and cafeterias throughout the bay area. As AYS Foods, we have been at our present location in San Bruno, California since 1996.
We hold cooking classes weekly at our San Bruno location. There is a new class every week, ranging from team cooking for businesses to family cooking classes. To schedule a class or to find out about other courses offered, please contact us by completing our online form.
About the Owner and Instructor:
John Akins
My passion for food started when I was a youngster. My very first job was working in a restaurant where the owner recognized my interest and taught me the business. After graduating from college, I rented my first commercial kitchen and started a small catering business which later grew into a commercial bakery.
My interest in food safety developed as a result of my son having life-threatening food allergies. I began by learning how to avoid cross-contamination of food. Later, when California mandated food safety instruction throughout the food services industry, I became certified to teach the Certified Food Handler course.
In addition to being a certified Food Safety Training instructor for the ServSafe Food Handler Certification class, I also hold a California Teachers Credential and on occasion teach Commercial Food Preparation and Culinary Arts courses as part of the San Mateo Adult and Community Education Program.
